Microsurgery

Microsurgery is required for the repair or reconstruction of blood vessels, lymphatic vessels, and nerves. Using a microscope and ultra-fine sutures, this intricate procedure can address vessels as small as 1mm in diameter.

Complex reconstructions are needed for conditions like head and neck cancers, large skin cancers, lower limb trauma, breast cancers or muscle tumors (sarcomas). This involves transferring tissue from one part of the body to another, known as free flap surgery.

Lipi has a specialised interest in reconstructive microsurgery and frequently performs these surgeries at The Alfred and St Vincent’s Public Hospitals as well as in her private practice.
